Global Sport University Network
Changing the world, together, through sport
The Global Sport University Network seeks to be the worldwide trusted and respected source of higher-education knowledge, research and policy advice in sport.
About GSUN
The GSUN is a collective of universities from around the world that aggregates sport-related research and expertise from every discipline. We harness that knowledge to both analyze sport itself and harness the enormous potential of sport to address timely, complex problems in human performance, product engineering and innovation, exercise and wellness, inclusion, and other societal issues surrounding sport. GSUN aggregates research, faculty insights and student energy to address topics that no one institution could fully address on its own.
The network aims to be the connector linking industry, governing bodies, sport commissions, media and other key stakeholders with researchers, educators and higher education institutions.
Themes
Health and Performance – injury prevention, physical health, and mental wellbeing for athletes and for anyone who participates in sport and undertakes physical activity.
Inclusivity and societal impact – how sport can contribute to development, peacebuilding, social cohesion and inclusivity at all levels, with particular attention to gender, race, disability, sexuality and aging populations.
Innovation – how technology, engineering solutions, data management and analytic techniques can enhance competitive performance and improve individual and community well-being.
Sustainability - minimize environmental impact of sport and accelerate progress towards net zero.
Across these four themes, we invite participation from all disciplines, leveraging science, engineering and technology, the social sciences, humanities, business, design, law, communications, education, and other fields to maximize the positive impact of sport.
Guiding Principles
The GSUN exists to bring people together, from academia, the media, the sports industry, community groups and those involved in the governance of sport, to facilitate knowledge exchange and catalyze positive change.
GSUN will gather academic expertise and share research-based findings and innovations.
GSUN will translate academic insights into practical contributions to support address the real-world challenges facing practitioners in industry, sports organizations, leagues and associations, governing and government bodies, media, community organizations and other stakeholders.
GSUN will not commission research but will act as a gateway to the research conducted by its members.
GSUN will direct research, data and insight to guide decision making; it will not have a lobbying function.
Individual members of GSUN may take a view on any particular issue, but GSUN, as a collective entity will not.
